Join the open call

14 - 20 August

Through this open call, you can tell us how you want the future of Mar Mikhael and Gemmayzeh’s public stairs to look like. We are now working to upgrade three public stairs: 1) Laziza , 2) Vendome and 3) Saint Nicolas.

We are looking for ideas for small-scale interventions that will:

  • Enhance social activities
  • Improve safety for all users
  • We particularly welcome design ideas that will improve the wellbeing of girls, women, children (including toddlers), elderly and people with disabilities.

** Ideas for collaborative construction with local communities are highly encouraged.

Format

  • You can submit your ideas on Minecraft or any other format
  • You can choose to work on one, two or all the stairs

** If you don't have a Minecraft license, we can provide licenses for you to join us online from home. Details on how to join the server will be sent upon registration.

Deadline

August 20th, 2021 at 19h00.

Note: This is not a competition, we are crowdsourcing communities' ideas to create a participatory design process.

Did you know that Minecraft can be used to design public spaces?

Minecraft is an interactive video game, better described as a "digital LEGO".

UN-Habitat uses Minecraft to design better public spaces for all residents and especially children and young people. We have used Minecraft in 87 cities and managed to upgrade 110 public spaces impacting the lives of 1.8 million people.

Check how we have done it in Kosovo:
